Privacy Policy

Effective 25 August 2026 · PlantMyYard, 601 16th St, Ste C #255, Golden, CO 80401

This policy covers two different people, and it is worth saying at the outset which one you are. If you scanned a code at a garden center and answered questions about your garden, you are a gardener. If you run a garden center and pay us a subscription, you are a partner. We hold different information about each, and we have written the two apart rather than blurring them together.

If you are a gardener

What we collect

Only what the plant list needs, and only what you type:

  • Your first name and email address, so we can address the list to you and send it.
  • Your ZIP code, which is how we know your climate — hardiness zone, rainfall, summer heat. It is the single most important thing you tell us, and the reason a list built in Phoenix looks nothing like one built in Boston.
  • Your answers about the garden: the size of each bed, how much sun it gets, the colours you like, the style you chose, whether you water, how much you want native plants, and the mix of trees, shrubs and perennials you asked for.
  • The plants we recommended, including any you swapped out.

We do not ask for your surname, your street address, your phone number, or your age, and there is nowhere to enter them. We never see payment details from you because we never charge you — the garden center pays for the service, not you.

What we do with it

We build your plant list, and we email it to you. That is the whole of the primary purpose.

We also count what people asked for. Each month we give the garden center you visited a summary of demand — for example, thirty-one people asked for shade perennials in April, mostly for beds under a hundred square feet. This is how a shop learns what to order for next season, and it is a real part of what they are paying for.

That summary is always aggregated and never identifies you. The garden center does not receive your name, your email address, or your individual answers, and there is no screen anywhere that would let them look you up. If you want the shop to know who you are, tell them yourself.

How long we keep it

Your name and email address are not stored in our database at all. They are used to address and send your plant list, and then they are gone from our systems. There is no customer table, no mailing list, and nothing to unsubscribe from, because we have no way to email you again. The one thing that outlives the session is described in the next paragraph.

One exception, and we would rather name it than let you discover it. The plant list we email you is a PDF, and we keep a copy of that file for thirty days so the link in your email keeps working and so we can resend it if it goes astray. Your first name is printed on it, because it is your garden. After thirty days the file is deleted automatically — not on request, not when someone remembers, but by a rule the storage enforces on its own.

Our email provider keeps a delivery record for a period, the way any post room does, so that a message that bounces can be traced. That record is theirs and is covered by their own retention policy.

What we do keep is the anonymous half: which plants were suggested, how many beds, whether the garden is watered, the ZIP code, and the date. That record has never had your name attached to it — not deleted from it, never attached — and it is what the demand summaries are built from.

Who else sees it

Three companies, each doing one job and none of them permitted to use your information for their own purposes:

  • Amazon Web Services hosts the application and the database, in the United States.
  • Resend delivers the email carrying your plant list. They see your email address and the message, because that is what sending an email requires.
  • Stripe handles garden center subscriptions. Stripe holds no information about gardeners at all.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. There is no advertising network, no tracking pixel, and no analytics service on the garden planner — the pages you use to design a bed do not report on you to anyone.

If you are a garden center

When you subscribe we collect your business name, your name, your email address, and your town, state and ZIP code. The ZIP code is what lets us point nearby gardeners at you.

Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. Card numbers never reach our servers and we could not retrieve them if we wanted to; what we store is Stripe’s customer and subscription identifiers and whether the subscription is currently active.

We keep your account details for as long as you are a customer, and afterwards only as long as tax and accounting rules require us to.

What we email you

Two different kinds of message, and you can stop one of them:

  • Messages about your account — your receipts, a reminder before your subscription renews, a notice if a payment fails, and anything we have to tell you about the service you are paying for. These are part of the product, so they continue for as long as your account does.
  • Your monthly demand summary, plus the occasional note about a new feature. Useful, but not essential. Every one of these carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them without affecting your subscription or the messages above.

We do not sell or rent your business details, and we do not email you about anything other than PlantMyYard. Resend delivers these messages, exactly as it does the gardener emails, and sees your email address in order to send them.

Your choices

Write to team@plantmyyard.com and we will, without charging you and without asking why:

  • tell you what we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it.

In practice, for a gardener, the answer to the first two is usually “nothing” and the third is already done — we do not store your name or address, so there is nothing to look up, correct or erase. The anonymous record of which plants were suggested remains, because it was never about you and cannot be traced back.

Depending on where you live you may have further rights under state law, including in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and elsewhere. We extend the rights above to everyone rather than checking which state you are in, because a two-tier policy is harder to honour than a single one.

Children

PlantMyYard is for adults buying plants. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us their details, write to us and we will remove them.

Security

Everything travels over an encrypted connection and is stored encrypted at rest. Access to the database is limited to the people who maintain the service. No system is perfect, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise.

Changes

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will change this page and move the effective date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than slipped in.
